Apple is celebrating 20 years as an iPhone maker by preparing a broad expansion of its hardware lineup for 2027. The tech giant is reportedly working on a redesigned anniversary iPhone, a second-generation foldable model, and AirPods with built-in cameras. However, none of these products has been officially confirmed yet.
The information is based on a report by Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman, who stated Apple is lining up a major product cycle for the period, and many devices are in advanced development stages.
The smartphone is expected to feature an edge-to-edge display with curved glass wrapping around the sides, signaling a major upgrade from the current flat-screen models. Models codenamed V73 and V74 are expected to replace iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max in Apple’s lineup. The latest versions may provide improved performance and power efficiency compared to current-generation processors.
Apple is also working on a second-generation foldable iPhone, internally known as V78. The product follows the company’s first foldable model, which is expected to arrive earlier than the 2027 timeline. The foldable category remains a key focus area for Apple as competitors expand offerings in flexible display devices.
Another major development includes AirPods equipped with cameras. These sensors are not designed for photography but for visual inputs to power Apple Intelligence. For example, users may be able to ask questions based on objects or environments they are viewing. The launch has reportedly been pushed back from a previously announced schedule as Apple works to improve Siri and computer vision systems.
Apple is also rumored to be testing more extensive AI-enabled wearable devices, such as smart glasses that could rival Meta products. The previous prototypes include advanced cameras and AI-powered interactions. Smart rings and other AI wearables are also in the pipeline, indicating a broader drive towards connected personal devices beyond smartphones.
Based on a 2nm manufacturing process, devices are expected to feature the A21 chip in 2027. The switch is designed to increase performance while improving energy efficiency. Looking further ahead, there are reports that Apple's 2028 flagship models could feature an A22 Pro chip based on a 1.4nm process.
The software is expected to support the company’s new wave of AI-focused devices. The company may also restructure its iPhone launch strategy. Premium models may continue to arrive in the fall cycle, while standard versions could have a later release window.
Apple is expected to launch iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max later this year, with standard iPhone 18 models to follow in early 2027. The next few years signal a wider shift in the company’s product strategy. As more emphasis is placed on AI integration, new form factors and tighter hardware-software alignment across its ecosystem.
