Elon Musk sparks another AI debate as he claims that generative AI tools will soon create complex video games within minutes. This statement follows the rapid development of multimodal models, which can now generate code, visual content and interactive elements from user prompts.

Musk Bets on AI-Led Game Creation

The fresh debate of AI in gaming started after Musk claimed that Rockstar Games is taking too much time in releasing the upcoming GTA 6. This can be done by AI within minutes

In support of this, AI Tech CEO Guillermo Rauch said, “There’s definitely a non-zero chance we get to generate your own GTA 6 in a few minutes, before GTA6.” Musk commented ‘Yeah’ on his post. In response to this, Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Rockstar Games’ parent company, Take Two, said, “If AI were going to get rid of employment, the richest man on Earth, Elon Musk, knows a little something about AI, last time I checked. He has unlimited financial resources, and he has unlimited human resources, and he has, apparently, an unlimited number of ideas. He knows his way around AI.”

He further explained, “The man works 20 hours a day. If AI were going to take anyone’s job, wouldn’t it take his job? The richest guy on Earth, wouldn’t that be job number one for AI to take? Why is he so busy?”

AI Creating Games? Reality or Musk’s Dream!

Well, this is not the first time Musk has made some commentary and landed in a debate. The tech leader is quite famous for his ‘big dreams and smaller execution.’ In December 2023, Musk had written on X, “Tried, but didn’t like doing crime. GTA5 required shooting police officers in the opening scene. Just couldn’t do it.”

This post has received 18.1M views so far and there are plenty of comments from passionate GTA fans who didn’t like Musk’s comment. In line with this, experts suggest that the development of AI technology will bring significant changes to the entire process of creating video games. The technology will provide easier access for smaller development teams. However, this shift without human input is currently far from reality. The gaming industry currently believes that AI functions as a strong tool that assists developers and nothing more.
