Colossal Biosciences, the startup developing de-extinction technologies, is reportedly seeking fresh funding at a valuation of at least AED 73.45 billion. According to Axios, the company could command a valuation of between AED 73.45 billion and AED 110.19 billion in the potential funding round.

This would represent a significant increase from the AED 37.45 billion valuation assigned to Colossal during its funding round in early 2025. The fundraising process has been under discussion for some time now, and the matter is expected to be resolved soon. The name of the lead investor is still not known.

Colossal Biosciences Targets Valuation of Up to AED 110.19 billion

Colossal has attracted global attention through its efforts to recreate extinct species, including the woolly mammoth and dire wolf. The work at the startup involves genetic engineering, genome editing, and reproductive technologies.

There is growing investor interest in using the technology platform to develop products in pharmaceuticals, conservation, climate, and longevity.

Colossal has reported progress in reproductive technologies related to its research efforts. Recently, the firm announced its success in hatching chicks from artificial eggs. This might be relevant in terms of the wider scope of recreating species like the South Island giant moa.

Artificial Womb Research Adds to Technology Portfolio

Colossal CEO Ben Lamm has said the company expects to create an artificial womb for mammals within a year. This technology could eventually find use beyond the purposes of conservation and de-extinction.

The biotech company is collaborating with the American government and the Museum of the Future of Dubai in developing genetic material vaults. The aim is to promote endangered species conservation. Looking ahead, Colossal has also spun off two businesses: Breaking, which focuses on plastic degradation, and Form Bio, a DNA analytics software company.

Colossal was reportedly pre-revenue when it raised AED 734.5 million in Series C funding at a AED 37.45 billion valuation in January 2025. This new fundraising round comes amid investor interest in deep-tech firms that are developing innovative technologies for biology, energy, computing, and longevity.
