Google Photos is getting a set of new tools that go well beyond storing and organizing pictures. Google announced five updates, including AI-powered photo selection, a digital wardrobe, new editing styles, creative templates, and improvements to its Markup tool. Some of the features are already rolling out, with availability depending on the device, location, and subscription.
One of the bigger additions is the integration of Google Photos with Gemini Spark. Eligible Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers in the US can use a single prompt to select, brighten, and share family portraits from their photo library.
Instead of manually searching through years of pictures and editing each one, users can describe what they want and let Gemini handle the task. Google is positioning the feature as a simpler way to make large photo libraries more useful.
Google Photos is also expanding its Wardrobe feature to eligible Android and iOS users in India, the US and Brazil. The tool uses AI to identify clothing in photos and organize the items into a digital collection.
Users can browse clothes by category, combine different pieces to create outfits and virtually try on selected looks. The feature can be useful for people with years of outfit photos they rarely revisit. According to Google, eligible users can also use the tool to build and explore different combinations from their existing wardrobe.
Android users are getting a new set of editing styles called Moods. The feature offers looks inspired by formats such as 35mm film and 2000s digicam photography, with the styles designed to adapt to individual images rather than simply applying the same effect to every picture.
Google is also adding 15 new Remix templates. These can turn ordinary photos into creations such as red-carpet scenes, birthday cards and photo-booth-style images. Remix is available on Android and iOS in selected countries for users aged over 18.

The fifth update targets Google's built-in Markup editor. A new Redact pen can blur sensitive information in images, while more precise thickness controls make drawing and highlighting easier. Google has also added new fonts for text overlays.
The Markup improvements are rolling out globally on Android. Together with the new AI tools, the changes make Google Photos less dependent on separate editing apps for everyday photo adjustments.
