NPCs are the most underrated elements in any open-world game. They are the little details that make the city feel lived-in, reacting to chaos, crime and everyday life. According to a recent leak, GTA 6 could take this to a whole new level, turning even minor pedestrians into dynamic parts of the game world.
The game will have hundreds of thousands of voice lines just for ambient NPCs, claims the X handle GTA 6 Countdown. GTA 6 supposedly uses a highly organized system with categories and tags, unlike GTA V, where NPCs draw randomly from a small pool of lines. Every line could depend on context, whether someone saw a crime or if they recognise you. The goal seems to be making NPC reactions not just scripted but feel natural.
According to the leak, voice actors have recorded multiple versions of the same lines with varying emotion, such as calm, panicked, whispering and even injured. The game would then pick the version that fits the moment. From witnessing a crime versus just hearing about it, their response changes. This approach could make walking around the city almost like observing a living world rather than interacting with code.
Another feature is dialogue decay. NPCs won’t keep repeating the same lines endlessly. Hang around a street corner long enough and the game starts pulling from rarer dialogue, making interactions feel fresh. NPCs may also chat with each other, reacting and responding naturally. The leak also hints at social awareness, where NPCs comment on rising crime, police activity or your recent actions in the area.
If this leak is accurate, GTA 6 could redefine how NPCs function in open-world games. The streets could feel more alive, more reactive, and more unpredictable. With the November 19 launch approaching, we may soon see just how immersive Rockstar has made its city.
