Camera app Halide released its first major update for the iPhone Duo. The update moves beyond basic compatibility and adds shooting tools designed around the foldable phone’s different positions.
Lux Optics, the company behind Halide, announced the release on October 26. Reportedly, the update is available to all Halide Mark III users. It marks the app’s first focused effort to make better use of the iPhone Duo’s unique hardware.
The update introduces three major features, with one built for each position of the iPhone Duo. Halide now adapts its interface and shooting experience when the device is fully closed, partially open, or fully open.
When the phone is partially open, Halide can turn it into something closer to a waist-level viewfinder camera. This setup allows users to frame and capture shots from a lower angle without holding the phone at eye level. The feature could appeal to street photographers and creators who want a more natural shooting posture.
Halide also added the ability to reposition camera controls when the iPhone Duo is fully or partially open. Users can move key controls to suit their grip and shooting style. The change addresses a common challenge with foldable devices.
Camera apps often assume a fixed screen layout, which can leave controls in awkward places when the device changes shape. Halide’s approach gives users more flexibility over where essential tools appear.
Lux Optics described this release as the first batch of iPhone Duo-focused updates. The company indicated that more features are in the pipeline, suggesting that Halide sees the foldable as a long-term platform rather than a one-off device.
The move also signals growing interest among app developers in building experiences specifically for foldable hardware. Rather than treating the iPhone Duo as a larger iPhone, Halide is designing around its hinge, screen positions and new ways of holding the device.
