Apple will introduce a new 'Made for iPhone Duo' label in the App Store for apps and games that are properly optimised for its foldable iPhone. The badge will appear on product pages and help users identify software that takes full advantage of the device’s larger inner screen.
The move signals Apple’s effort to build a strong app ecosystem around the iPhone Duo from launch. Foldable phones can expose app-design limitations when applications are built only for conventional displays. Apple wants developers to adapt their apps for the new form factor rather than leave users with stretched layouts or unused screen space.
According to Apple, an app must be built with the iOS 27.1 SDK or later to qualify for the Made for iPhone Duo badge. Such apps will use the full inner display, with the toolbar positioned vertically below the status bar.
Apps built with the iOS 27 SDK will use most of the inner display but will not fully occupy the right edge near the status bar. Older apps built with iOS 26 SDK or earlier will run in a centred layout, leaving noticeable space on both sides.
This tiered approach gives developers a clear benchmark. It also allows Apple to separate apps that genuinely support the foldable experience from those that merely function on the device.
The badge will work as a practical discovery tool. Users browsing the App Store will be able to spot apps designed for split-screen use, larger canvases and the iPhone Duo’s different viewing positions.
Apple is also preparing curated collections of iPhone Duo-ready apps and games. These collections will likely highlight productivity tools, entertainment apps, creative software and games that benefit most from a larger, flexible display. For early adopters, the label reduces uncertainty before download.
