Apple now offers two distinct MacBook options for UAE buyers. MacBook Neo targets budget-conscious users and the M5-powered MacBook Air is aimed at heavier daily workloads. Current retail prices put the Neo at around AED 2,699, while the 13-inch Air is listed at around AED 5,299.
The price gap is significant for working professionals. The choice largely depends on the type of work, number of applications used and how long the laptop is expected to serve.
MacBook Neo uses the A18 Pro chip, which Apple first introduced with the iPhone 16 Pro in 2024. It comes with 8GB of memory and uses a fanless design.
Neo can handle emails, documents, spreadsheets, web tools, messaging apps and video calls. Reviewers also found it capable of handling Chrome with several tabs, Slack conversations and photo editing.
However, its memory can become a limitation during heavier multitasking. One reviewer reported an ‘out of memory’ warning while screen sharing with several other applications running.
The Neo also supports one external display at up to 4K and 60Hz. Its entry-level version does not include Touch ID or a backlit keyboard.
MacBook Air uses Apple’s M5 chip and comes with 16GB of memory. Its larger memory capacity gives users more room to run multiple applications at the same time.
The Air also offers a 12MP Center Stage camera, a backlit keyboard, Thunderbolt ports and MagSafe charging. These features can matter for professionals who spend long hours on video calls or work from a desk with external displays.
A Gulf News review noted that the Neo can suit light office work, travel and first-time Mac buyers. The higher-priced Neo configuration adds more storage and Touch ID. For users handling regular video editing, 3D work or large design files, reviewers point towards the MacBook Pro instead.
The Neo offers a lower entry price, while the Air provides more memory and hardware flexibility. The choice therefore depends on workload rather than price alone.
