Meta’s latest, Muse Spark, is showing early signs of gripping the market. Its standalone AI app is climbing sharply in app store rankings after the launch. The surge underscored how quickly consumer interest can move whenever any AI upgrades hit the market. Though there is competition, the chatbot market is still intense and highly concentrated at the top.
According to Appfigures, the release of Muse Spark has jumped from No. 57 to No. 5 on the U.S. App Store within a day. This is a sudden burst of downloads driven by the new model rollout. Sensor Tower data estimated marking an 87% day-over-day jump of around 46,000 U.S. iOS downloads on April 8, 2026. However, Android growth remained muted at just 3%, showing uneven platform momentum.
This new model is being positioned as a major upgrade over earlier Llama 4 systems. It is a key step in Meta’s attempt to stand out among leading AI firms. It comes under the leadership of Alexandr Wang, who was brought in to strengthen the company’s AI roadmap. Meta says the model supports multimodal input, including text, voice, and images. Signals a push toward more practical, creator-focused AI tools.
Appfigures data shows Meta AI has reached downloads that have grown 138% over the past five months compared to its early rollout phase. Despite the spike, Meta AI remains behind major rivals. OpenAI’s ChatGPT holds the No. 1 position, followed by Anthropic’s Claude and Google’s Gemini. The rankings show that while Meta is gaining attention, it is still playing catch-up in a crowded AI assistant market.
The Muse Spark launch has clearly intensified the interest for Meta’s AI ambitions, but the real problem is to close the gap to be established in the AI market. Meta plans to expand Muse Spark across WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, Messenger and its AI glasses ecosystem. Success will depend on whether Meta can convert early interest into long-term dominance in a rapidly evolving AI market.
