Microsoft introduced MAI-Cyber-1-Flash, its first artificial intelligence model built exclusively for cybersecurity. This comes as the tech giant’s effort to strengthen enterprise security as AI-powered cyberattacks increase. Microsoft also unveiled Project Perception, an agentic AI platform designed to automate security operations, vulnerability detection, and remediation.
In an official announcement, Microsoft said, “MAI Cyber 1 Flash AI delivers world-class performance at 50 per cent of the cost of leading models.MAI Cyber 1 Flash was designed to efficiently handle up to 90 per cent of all tasks, enabling MDASH to use the larger and most costly models in our fleet (in this case GPT 5.4) for the 10 per cent of exceptionally hard tasks that truly need them.”
The combined MAI-Cyber-1-Flash and MDASH system scored 95.95%, leading Anthropic's Mythos 5, OpenAI's GPT-5.5 Cyber, GPT-5.6 Sol, and Google's Gemini 3.5 Flash Cyber. However, these performance figures are based on Microsoft's own testing and did not appear on CyberGym's public leaderboard. MAI-Cyber-1-Flash is optimized for code-intensive cybersecurity tasks.
The small-scale version takes care of 90% of regular security operations. Experts suggest that advanced tasks can be done using OpenAI’s GPT-5.4. The combined system reduces operating expenses by 50 percent from the existing setup at Microsoft.
Microsoft has also unveiled Project Perception, an AI-powered cybersecurity platform. This uses dedicated AI agents to protect the system by detecting weaknesses, prioritizing threats, and suggesting solutions. It is integrated into Microsoft’s MDASH platform for automated security rather than depending on manual processes.
The launch comes as technology companies race to build AI systems tailored for cybersecurity. MAI-Cyber-1-Flash and Project Perception are currently in private preview, with broader customer access expected later this year.
