OpenAI has launched Daybreak, a new AI platform focused on cybersecurity and software defence. Reportedly, the platform will help businesses strengthen code security, identify vulnerabilities, and reduce cyber risks.
As major AI companies continue to expand into cyber defence tools, OpenAI aims to compete with Anthropic’s recently launched cybersecurity initiative, Mythos.
OpenAI stated in a press release, “Daybreak combines its GPT-5.5 models with Codex Security tools to assist developers and security teams in securing software during the development process. The platform can scan large codebases, analyse security threats, validate vulnerabilities, and suggest fixes before attackers exploit weaknesses.”
OpenAI further explained that the system integrates into existing software development workflows and supports enterprise-scale operations. Adding that the platform is aimed at major sectors, including:
Governments
Enterprises
Cloud providers
Cybersecurity firms looking to automate threat detection and software auditing.
According to OpenAI, Daybreak can generate editable threat models, simulate attack scenarios, and assist teams during vulnerability triage. The platform operates in isolated testing environments to verify security risks before remediation.
The launch took place after Anthropic released Mythos through Project Glasswing. The platform has restricted access as Anthropic needs to protect its advanced cyber capabilities. Industry analysts view Daybreak as OpenAI’s response to Anthropic’s growing presence in AI-powered cyber defence.
OpenAI currently operates its business through partnerships with technology and security companies, unlike Anthropic's method of introducing products to the market. OpenAI established a partnership with Cisco, Cloudflare, CrowdStrike, and Palo Alto Networks. The aim is to enhance Daybreak through better deployment options and improved cybersecurity connections.
Daybreak implements monitoring systems, access controls, and verification safeguards to reduce misuse risks. The company stated that responsible deployment of AI-driven cybersecurity tools remains an essential priority, as their technological capabilities continue to increase.
