Samsung is likely to introduce a major branding shift in its upcoming foldable lineup. The tech giant is expected to launch two models: the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, replacing earlier expectations around a ‘Wide’ variant.
The most notable change is the introduction of the ‘Ultra’ tag to the Fold lineup. Earlier used exclusively for Galaxy S phones, the update highlights that the new Fold models will be positioned as Samsung’s flagship products.
The flagship model is expected to feature premium specifications, including improved camera capabilities and stylus support. However, not all rumored features may appear in the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra. Samsung is expected to launch two foldable phones simultaneously, with one carrying the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra branding
Reports suggest that the Galaxy Fold 8 will feature an elongated design that aligns with today's foldable phone trends. Reportedly, other features include:
An increase in battery power up to 5,000 mAh
Quick charging capability
Better camera configuration
Samsung’s shift comes as competition intensifies in the foldable segment. Their competitors have begun using larger models and new form factors, prompting Samsung to explore alternative approaches. Announcing the Ultra Fold model along with the larger version clearly demonstrates Samsung’s intention to reach both productivity consumers and regular users.
The upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 8 series will launch in July 2026 at the company’s Unpacked event. Though we have little information about the phone beyond leaked images, the name change suggests Samsung intends to reposition foldable phones as flagships.
