A missile hit the Thuraya Telecommunications company building in Sharjah on Tuesday, April 7 amid the US-Iran war. Although Space42, the parent company, has now confirmed that despite the strike, all of its systems are operating normally.

There has been no break in satellite links across the UAE or the region. While tensions remain, the recent two-week truce involving the US, Israel, and Iran offers much-needed relief to the region’s strained infrastructure.

Casualties and Defence Response

The attack involved 11 drones launched from Iran. Two Pakistani workers were injured in the strike and are receiving care, but no deaths were reported. The UAE Ministry of Defence also stopped one ballistic missile. This intervention prevented much more damage to the Sharjah site.

A Growing Trend of Attacks

This strike is part of a larger trend targeting local infrastructure by Iran. A similar attack hit a building linked to the telecom company ‘du’ in Fujairah just a day earlier. A drone also hit a Thuraya office on March 30. Since late February, UAE air defenses have stopped over 500 missiles and 2,200 drones. These numbers show the massive scale of the current threat to the region.

Strength of UAE Networks

UAE telecom networks remain strong despite these events. Operators use backup systems and secure designs to keep the lines open. Space42 says people can still fully rely on Thuraya for their needs. These communication systems are built to stay active even when physical buildings are targeted.
