Qualcomm is set to open its annual Snapdragon Summit in Maui, Hawaii, on September 22. The three-day event will focus on the company’s vision for the ‘agentic age’, with the first day dedicated largely to mobile technology. Qualcomm already revealed several details about its next premium Snapdragon platform, setting the stage for a major flagship chip announcement.
The biggest announcement is expected to be Qualcomm’s next-generation flagship smartphone platform. Reportedly, two variants the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro will come. However, Qualcomm did not make any official confirmation.
Qualcomm says, “ The performance boost will come from a fully custom CPU design, along with improvements in instructions per clock. Qualcomm is also introducing Oryon Flex Cache. The architecture allows different CPU cores to access a dynamically allocated shared cache pool.”
Qualcomm also previewed Adreno Neural Fusion, which brings dedicated Matrix Cores into the GPU. The graphics architecture includes 18MB of Adreno High Performance Memory and is designed to run AI workloads directly within the graphics pipeline.
AI will remain central to Qualcomm’s mobile strategy. The company revealed a new Hexagon NPU designed specifically for agentic AI workloads.
The NPU features an Element Accelerator for transformer-based workloads and a shared memory system 50% larger. Qualcomm says, “The architecture can support Mixture-of-Experts models with up to 30 billion parameters while activating only a portion of those parameters for each task.”
It also claims up to 50% faster prefill for INT4 models. The September 22 programme includes Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon’s vision keynote, followed by a dedicated mobile keynote led by Chris Patrick, Qualcomm’s handset chief.
