Students from all over the UAE will be back in school on April 20 after spending a month studying from home. All institutions under the Ministry of Education have been ordered to resume face-to-face learning. This marks a major nationwide effort to revert to classroom-based learning.
Schools were earlier instructed to transition to virtual learning since the beginning of March due to regional security threats. The process was continued in stages, depending on the evaluation of the situation. Now that things have calmed down, the government has given schools clearance to reopen.
The transition will not be uniform across all institutions. Institutions in Dubai may stagger their reopening across different areas. The regulatory bodies have started inspecting the required safety measures.
Even when classes resume, flexibility is expected to remain a priority. Hybrid education may be considered for children who can't return for various reasons. The recent reasons include ongoing conflicts in the Middle East. The geopolitical conflicts have significantly impacted the education sector, according to experts.
Some measures have been put in place to ensure that students adapt to the new environment. There will be a need for additional tutoring to address missed lessons, as well as for the children's welfare, given that they were away from school for weeks.
Higher education institutions will also resume in-person classes from April 20. Like schools, universities may retain hybrid formats where necessary, ensuring minimal disruption for students.
The reopening marks an important step toward normalcy in the UAE’s education sector. However, authorities remain cautious. The system is designed to remain flexible in case conditions shift again, ensuring learning continues without interruption.
