The Andhra Pradesh government's ambitious plan to build a globally competitive food processing ecosystem has taken a significant step forward, with its partnership with the UAE Food Cluster moving from the planning stage to implementation.
The initiative, backed by the Andhra Pradesh Economic Development Board (APEDB) and supported by the UAE government, aims to strengthen food processing, agricultural exports, and supply-chain infrastructure while attracting foreign investment into the state.
The collaboration finds its roots in the discussions that took place at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, where the chief minister of Andhra Pradesh, N. Chandrababu Naidu, proposed the state as an attractive destination for global food processing investments. Within months, these discussions have materialized into an implementation plan with both governments endeavoring to set up a UAE-backed food cluster in Andhra Pradesh.
The officials explained that the initiative will be dedicated to creating a value chain that includes processes such as food production, storage, logistics, exports, and modern agriculture techniques. The collaboration is likely to motivate the firms in the UAE to make investments in export-oriented production in agriculture, especially in areas like fruits, vegetables, and horticulture.
"We are transforming Rayalaseema into a horticulture hub through public and private investments worth Rs 1 lakh crore," Naidu said.
"In partnership with Reliance, we are establishing the Indian School of Agriculture. Through more than 200 horticulture clusters, Andhra Pradesh is exporting products such as aquaculture produce, chilli, oil palm, cocoa and coffee. With its ports, railways and road connectivity, AP has emerged as a logistics hub. Another international airport in the state will become operational from August 1," the Chief Minister said.
The UAE, which imports most of its food demand from other countries, finds Andhra Pradesh to be a suitable partner who can ensure its future food security through quality agricultural output and advanced processing units. In parallel, the state views this partnership as a way for local farmers to get access to global value chains.
An important delegation from the UAE, including officials from different firms, has just visited Andhra Pradesh for evaluation of investment options. UAE Economy and Tourism Minister Abdulla bin Touq Al Marri stated that many firms have shown considerable interest in joining food processing projects following their discussion with state officials and tours of project sites.

The initiative aligns with the government's broader strategy of positioning Andhra Pradesh as a manufacturing and agri-processing hub, complementing recent investments in dairy, horticulture and food-processing infrastructure across the state.
