

A bionic role brings human skills and artificial intelligence together in one job. The employee keeps control of judgment, responsibility, relationships and important decisions. AI handles large amounts of data, routine tasks, research, analysis and other work at high speed.
The term 'bionic' describes this close partnership between people and technology. It does not mean a machine takes over an entire job. Instead, the role changes so the employee can work with AI as a digital partner. This model has gained particular attention in the UAE as the country pushes ahead with large-scale AI plans across government and business.
The UAE has made Agentic AI a major part of its next stage of digital transformation. In April 2026, the UAE Cabinet announced a plan to transform 50% of government sectors, services and operations through autonomous Agentic AI models within two years. These systems can analyse information, make decisions and carry out tasks with limited human input.
This target gives the idea of a bionic workforce a clear UAE context. Government employees will not simply use AI for small office tasks. Many roles will need new ways of work where people guide AI systems, check their results and take responsibility for important outcomes.
The UAE Government has also approved a programme to train 80,000 federal employees in Agentic AI. The programme covers different occupational groups rather than only technology specialists. Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence has joined the initiative through a strategic knowledge partnership with the federal government.
This approach shows a major shift in workforce skills. AI knowledge will not remain limited to software engineers or data scientists. HR staff, administrators, managers, policy teams and other professionals will also need the ability to work with AI systems.
A bionic role therefore requires two forms of expertise. The first comes from the employee’s professional field. The second comes from the ability to direct, assess and manage AI tools.
The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation offers a strong example. In 2025, MoHRE completed about 13 million transactions through automation and AI without human intervention. Its systems now handle large parts of several digital processes, which allows staff to focus on cases that need human judgment.
MoHRE also introduced its AI-powered 'Eye' system to support work permit processes. The system can check documents and handle application steps with limited human involvement, while exceptional cases can still reach human staff.
Such systems change the nature of work. An employee may no longer spend most of the day on routine checks. The role can shift toward exception handling, decision review, problem solving and direct support for people.
A bionic role has a clear division of work between human and machine. AI can process information at scale, find patterns, prepare reports and complete repeat tasks. The employee adds context, ethics, professional knowledge, creativity and final judgment.
For example, a bionic HR professional could ask an AI system to review workforce data and identify unusual trends. The professional could then examine the results, speak with relevant teams and decide what action makes sense. AI supplies speed and analysis, while the human supplies judgment and accountability.
This model also creates a new responsibility. Employees must know when an AI answer needs a second check. They must understand data quality, privacy, bias and the limits of automated decisions.
