Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei is considerably wealthier than OpenAI CEO Sam Altman in 2026, according to the latest estimates. Amodei’s estimated fortune stands at around USD 15.5 billion, while Altman’s is about USD 3.3 billion. This puts Amodei approximately USD 12.2 billion ahead, with a fortune nearly five times larger than that of his OpenAI counterpart.
The contrast is striking as both executives lead two of the most influential companies in the generative AI industry. However, they built their personal fortunes in very different ways.
A major source of Amodei’s wealth is his ownership stake in Anthropic, the AI company he co-founded in 2021 with his sister Daniela Amodei and other former OpenAI employees. As Anthropic’s valuation has climbed sharply, the estimated value of Amodei’s stake has risen with it.
Forbes currently puts his net worth at about USD 15.5 billion, while Bloomberg has reported a lower figure of nearly USD 8 billion, illustrating how estimates can vary depending on the valuation and ownership assumptions used. Much of this fortune is tied to private-company equity rather than cash or publicly traded shares.
Altman’s situation is almost the reverse. Despite being OpenAI’s co-founder and CEO, he has said that he does not own equity in OpenAI. His estimated USD 3.3-billion fortune instead comes largely from investments in other companies. Altman has stakes in a range of technology businesses, including Helion Energy, Reddit and Stripe.
During legal proceedings earlier this year, he disclosed that his investments in companies doing business with OpenAI were worth more than USD 2 billion, including a Helion stake valued at about USD 1.65 billion at the time.

Based on the latest Forbes estimates, Dario Amodei is clearly ahead. At USD 15.5 billion, his estimated fortune is approximately 4.7 times Altman’s USD 3.3 billion. The gap largely comes down to company ownership. Amodei retained a meaningful stake in the AI company he helped build, while Altman’s wealth has grown through investments outside OpenAI.
Amodei’s fortune could continue moving sharply as Anthropic’s valuation changes. The company attracted substantial investment as demand for its Claude AI models has grown, pushing its private-market valuation dramatically higher.
However, these numbers should not be treated as fixed cash fortunes. Anthropic remains privately held, and the estimated value of Amodei’s stake depends on funding rounds, ownership percentages, and market expectations.
