MSI has set a price of AED 6,606.83 ($1,799) for its upcoming Windows gaming handheld Claw 8 EX AI+. The price tag places the model in the premium performance category rather than the mid-range handheld segment. The company has already confirmed the US shipping will begin on June 23, 2026.
The pricing makes the device substantially costlier than previous market expectations and closer to high-end gaming laptops than to compact handheld consoles.
The Claw 8 EX AI+ comes with Intel’s Arc G3 Extreme processor paired with Intel Arc B390 graphics. It includes 32GB of LPDDR5X memory and a 1TB PCIe solid-state drive.
MSI has equipped the device with an 8-inch IPS-level touchscreen offering 1920x1200 resolution. The display supports a variable refresh rate between 48Hz and 120Hz and reaches peak brightness of 500 nits. It also covers the full sRGB color space, though the lack of an OLED panel may be a disadvantage at this price range.
The handheld model includes an 80Wh battery, Hall-effect joysticks and triggers, WiFi 7 support, and Bluetooth 6 connectivity. It also carries two Thunderbolt 4 ports and a microSD card slot.
MSI has introduced redesigned grips, an improved D-pad, and enhanced haptic feedback. The device also supports Xbox Mode for quicker game access on Windows systems.
The Claw 8 EX AI+ uses Intel XeSS 3 and Multi-Frame Generation technology to improve frame rates in supported games. The unit weighs 785 grams and is available in Void Purple color.
The specifications place the device in a category aimed at high-performance users rather than casual handheld gaming buyers. The focus appears to be on desktop-level gaming capability in a portable format.
MSI product marketing lead Andy Chu said the company explored several cost-cutting options before setting the price. He noted that rising costs of memory and storage were a major factor in the final price.
Chu added that MSI tried to negotiate better prices with suppliers, but cost pressure in 2026 reduced flexibility. He described the year as difficult for both companies and consumers.
MSI also said the price may change again if component costs keep rising, with further adjustments still possible.
MSI has said the Claw 8 EX AI+ is designed for users who want high performance rather than regular handheld buyers. The company is promoting the Intel Arc G3 Extreme platform as a major upgrade for portable gaming.
The price is much higher than most handheld consoles. The 1TB Steam Deck OLED costs AED 3,485.20 ($949), while the 512GB version costs AED 2,897.60 ($789), indicating a clear price gap between the two.
At AED 6,606.83, the MSI device falls within a price range where buyers may compare it with gaming laptops and desktop PCs instead of handheld gaming systems.
MSI has not ruled out further price changes depending on market conditions. The company reported rising costs in memory, storage, and other components could push prices higher in future revisions.
While the Claw 8 EX AI+ offers upgraded specifications and portability, its pricing places pressure on its value proposition. The latest model’s performance will be closely watched once independent reviews test real-world gaming output and efficiency.
