Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang rejects warnings that artificial intelligence could cause human extinction within the next decade. In an interview with CBS News, Huang said, “ There is a 0% chance that 2030 will mark the end of the world because of AI.”
He described such predictions as ‘doomsday narratives’ and said creating fear around the technology is unnecessary and irresponsible. His comments come as technology leaders and researchers debate whether AI development is moving faster than safety measures can keep pace.
Huang was direct about his stance on AI doomsday scenarios. He said, “ However it’s characterised, 2030 is not going to be the end of the world. There is a 0% chance it’s going to be the end of the world.”
Huang argued that the AI industry should continue advancing at speed rather than slowing development because of extinction concerns. However, he stressed that companies should not release systems before they are ready or deploy products that could be unsafe.
Huang’s personal wealth also rose alongside the AI surge, with recent reports putting it above $192 billion. This figure refers to his estimated personal fortune and should not be confused with Nvidia’s revenue or market capitalisation.
The comments follow warnings from former Anthropic researcher Jacob Coxon, who argued that AI developers could be moving towards systems capable of improving themselves and potentially becoming difficult to control.
Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei separately called for greater caution over the pace of AI development. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman also participated in the wider debate over AI safety. Huang, however, said extreme predictions about AI-driven extinction are not grounded in science.
