Just weeks before its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2026, Apple has announced a major expansion of AI-powered accessibility features across iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple TV, and Vision Pro devices. The update offers a glimpse into how the company is integrating on-device AI into its overall software.
One of the largest additions is AI-based live video captioning for uncaptioned videos. The feature will automatically caption live video conversations on Apple devices, making it easier for people with hearing loss to access them. It also adds improved AI-generated image description support and natural-language navigation to VoiceOver.
The company continues to roll out support tools through the camera, including a new voice-over feature. With the action button, users can ask questions about objects or their environment seen through the camera's lens. These capabilities are particularly dependent on the device, consistent with Apple's wider AI strategy to protect privacy.
Another big feature is a new accessibility reader that can summarize more complex documents and text. This reflects the company’s dedicated focus on AI-powered reading and comprehension solutions in its inclusive features.
For Apple Vision Pro, the tech giant is introducing new accessibility integrations with wheelchair drive systems such as Tolt and LUCI. Vision Pro will also support Bluetooth and wired usability tools through the Developer Strap. Vehicle motion cues are also being added to help reduce motion sickness during use in moving vehicles.
Other enhancements include increased text size on tvOS and a new API that lets sign language interpreters join FaceTime calls.
It arrives amid speculation about WWDC 2026, where Apple is rumored to introduce a more impressive, powerful AI-driven version of Siri and additional Intelligence features in iOS 27/macOS 27.
