Apple’s first foldable iPhone could retain one of its most recognizable charging features despite its reportedly ultra-thin design. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman highlighted that the rumoured iPhone Ultra is likely to support MagSafe charging when it launches.
Gurman shared the information during an interview with Tom’s Guide. This adds to the growing list of details surrounding Apple’s first foldable smartphone. The company is expected to unveil the device at its September 9 event.
In a conversation with Tom's Guide, Mark Gurman said, “Apple is likely to include MagSafe charging support on the first foldable iPhone (via GSMArena). This would reportedly allow the purported foldable to use Apple's magnetic charging accessories despite its thin construction. Apple can make the feature work because it has already integrated MagSafe into the much slimmer iPhone Air. The iPhone Ultra is expected to be around 4.5mm thick when unfolded, making the reported charging support notable given the space constraints of a foldable design.”
The device is also expected to bring a book-style folding design. Reportedly, it can feature a 7.8-inch internal display and a 5.5-inch external screen. This design would give users a larger display when the phone is opened while maintaining a more compact form factor when folded.
The foldable iPhone is also expected to bring several hardware changes. Reports point to Apple’s next-generation A20 Pro chip and a newer C2 modem.
The camera system could include wide and ultra-wide lenses, while the phone may skip a telephoto camera. Face ID could also make way for Touch ID because the ultra-thin design creates space constraints.
