Users reported difficulty accessing Claude and Claude Code during the disruption. Reports came from different regions, indicating the issue wasn't limited to a single location. Downdetector recorded more than 1,600 reports at the height of the disruption. Some users said Claude was unavailable, while others reported specific problems with Claude Code.
Anthropic did not publish a detailed explanation for the September 22 incident at the time of the report. The company also did not confirm publicly which specific models were affected or identify a technical cause. The disruption also comes after several service incidents reported in recent weeks. Anthropic’s status history lists separate issues on August 24, September 3, September 10, September 11 and September 15. These incidents affected different Claude models and services.
A separate outage on September 3 affected several Claude models. Anthropic’s status page listed Mythos/Fable 5.1, Mythos/Fable 5, Opus 5, Opus 4.8 and Opus 4.6 among the affected services. Claude.ai and the Claude API were also listed with partial outages during that incident. Anthropic said it identified the cause of the September 3 issue and was working on a fix.
The company did not disclose the technical details behind that incident. Anthropic’s system status page currently shows Claude services as operational.
