Flipper Devices just unveiled the Flipper One, the long-awaited follow-up to the Flipper Zero. It keeps the same hacker-friendly toolkit fans love, but finally addresses the hardware gripes users have flagged since day one.

Bigger Screen, Better Hardware

The most apparent difference is the display. The Flipper One gets a 3.2-inch color LCD with 480×320 resolution, a major upgrade over the Zero's 1.4-inch monochrome display. This has a crucial impact on the navigation.

Under the hood is an ESP32-S3 chip with an RP2040 co-processor and 8MB of PSRAM (32 times the Zero's 256KB). Flash storage jumps from 1MB to 16MB, with microSD support extending up to 128GB.

Wireless Capabilities Get a Meaningful Upgrade

Wi-Fi 6 is integrated into the device, unlike with Flipper Zero, where users were asked to attach a separate Wi-Fi module. It still features Bluetooth 5.0, sub-GHz radio, NFC, RFID and infrared connectivity.

There are also general-purpose I/O pins available for personal projects. The previous micro-USB charging and data transfer have been replaced with a USB-C port to provide faster charging and data transfer rates for Flipper One.

Still Being Built in Public

As with the Flipper Zero, there is community development behind the creation of the Flipper One. Flipper Devices has opened up feedback channels and developer documentation before the final device release and is currently working on power management and interface refinement.

UAE Pricing and Availability

The Flipper One is expected to launch at around $250 (approximately Dhs 920) in the UAE. Pre-orders are anticipated in Q3 2024 with shipping expected in Q4. UAE-specific retail partnerships have not yet been confirmed.

Prospective buyers should note that import regulations for security tools may apply in the UAE and should be verified before purchase.
