Elon Musk’s AI chatbot Grok expanded its mobile reach with a dedicated Android app. Developed by xAI, the chatbot is now available through Google Play. Thus, bringing its conversational AI and multimodal capabilities to Android users. The app was updated on September 3 and currently lists more than 100 million downloads on Google Play.
Grok positions itself as an AI assistant that can answer questions, hold natural conversations and provide access to real-time information from X. Its Android availability gives users a standalone way to access the chatbot without relying solely on the web or other platforms.
The move also strengthens xAI’s competition with established AI assistants from Google and OpenAI. Grok combines conversational capabilities with tools for generating and understanding different forms of content.
One of Grok’s major features is generative media. The Android app allows you to create AI-generated images and videos from prompts. The Imagine Image 2.0 model will now be available on Android and iOS, with improvements focused on following detailed instructions, typography, layouts, and image editing.
Another significant addition is Grok Build. xAI made the feature available across web and mobile, including Android. This allows users to describe an app, game, website, or dashboard and have Grok create a working version.
Grok’s Android expansion comes as AI assistants increasingly move beyond simple question-answering. With real-time X data, voice interaction, image understanding, generative media, and app-building capabilities, xAI is positioning Grok as a broader digital assistant.
