Instagram feeds across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) are taking an unusual turn. Several well-known brands are posting blurry selfies, random close-ups, crooked angles, and photos that resemble images captured by young children. The trend has spread rapidly across the UAE and neighbouring Gulf countries, leaving many users wondering whether the posts are genuine mistakes or a coordinated campaign.

How the Viral Trend Began

Saudi fashion label Sahaba Abaya, a fashion house, shared a picture captured by the child of the company owner. Along with the picture was a caption that seemed to come out of nowhere, which could be associated with a kid’s mind. The company didn’t delete the post but kept it on their page. It turned out that fans loved the idea of being genuine.

Soon, companies across the GCC adopted the concept. Major brands include:

  • Uber UAE

  •  dU

  • Visit Abu Dhabi

Also, the UAE Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure began sharing similar child-style photographs and playful captions. Each account added its own creative twist while maintaining the illusion that a child had briefly taken over the brand's Instagram page.

A New Playbook for Social Media Marketing

Whether the trend fades quickly or lasts longer, it highlights a broader shift in digital marketing. Brands are moving away from highly edited content and embracing casual, personality-driven posts that encourage conversation. The popularity of these childlike images shows that authenticity, humour and simplicity can sometimes deliver greater engagement than traditional advertising.
