The United States has issued a worldwide security alert for its citizens as tensions with Iran continue to escalate across the Middle East. The US State Department advised Americans worldwide to exercise increased caution, citing a complex security environment and the possibility of unforeseen escalation.
The advisory comes as Washington and Tehran continue to exchange military strikes. The latest developments have raised concerns that the conflict could expand beyond direct US-Iran confrontations and draw more regional countries into the crisis.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed on Tuesday that it had struck US military assets in Bahrain and Kuwait, According to Iranian news outlets, “The attacks were carried out against air defense facilities, radar stations, and other military installations.”
There are reports that the IRGC may launch additional drone and missile strikes. This comes at a time when the US military is engaged in combat against Iranian targets.
The Strait of Hormuz has emerged as a major flashpoint in the conflict. The strategic waterway handles a significant share of global energy shipments, and growing military activity has sharply reduced commercial traffic.
According to Reuters, “Only four commodity vessels crossed the strait on Monday, while no very large crude carriers or LNG tankers were reported. A maritime agency also received a report of a tanker being struck by an unknown projectile near Oman.”
On the other hand, the US Maritime Administration has issued warnings regarding the dangers faced by merchant ships in the area. These include missile attacks, drones and unmanned vessels. The disruption has intensified concerns over global energy supplies and shipping safety. A prolonged decrease in traffic at the Strait of Hormuz would have repercussions in the oil market.
