Marvel Rivals has seen a major anti-cheat crackdown as NetEase Games banned over 500 players in a single wave. The move comes at a time when cheating concerns and security debates have been increasing within the competitive community. The studio has warned of stricter action ahead, including account and device-level bans.
NetEase confirmed 504 accounts were permanently banned after an investigation into cheating, exploit use, and client tampering. The studio said it used multi-layered detection systems along with manual checks to identify offenders.
Most banned accounts were found in lower ranks like Bronze and Silver, raising questions around smurf accounts and repeat violations. The company also made its stance clear on repeat offenders. It said future penalties may include IP bans and full device bans for players caught cheating again.
Cheating concerns in Marvel Rivals have been discussed since its launch in 2024. The game uses kernel-level anti-cheat, which has sparked debate over security and system access.
Recent claims from streamer Jay3OW suggested the anti-cheat could be removed from systems, although these claims remain unverified. NetEase has denied such reports and said its anti-cheat cannot be disabled separately from the game. The developer also called these rumors false.
Season 8 began on May 15, 2026, with new heroes Devil Dinosaur and Cyclops joining the roster. The update also brought a new battle pass and fresh cosmetics. NetEase plans to add more content in the coming weeks, including the Alchemx Headquarters map. New skins for Black Cat, Wolverine, Iron Man, and Mantis are also scheduled ahead of the Season 8.5 rollout.
The latest ban wave signals a stricter stance on competitive integrity in Marvel Rivals. NetEase is now focusing on stronger enforcement against cheats and exploit tools. However, community concerns remain around toxicity, smurfing, and match throwing, which are still seen as major issues.
The action shows NetEase is tightening core anti-cheat systems while expanding seasonal content to retain player trust. The real test will be consistency in enforcement across cheating and non-cheating violations. If handled well, Season 8 could stabilize the game’s competitive environment and improve long-term retention.
