Slack launched Slack Code, a new feature that gives software teams dedicated channels to work with AI coding agents. The feature allows developers, agents and colleagues to plan, build and review software within the same Slack workspace.

The Salesforce-owned platform announced Slack Code in a blog post on Thursday. Users can start a dedicated code channel by mentioning a supported coding agent and then adding relevant teammates to the project.

Slack Code is designed to make AI-assisted software development more collaborative. An agent can generate code, prepare documents or create a live HTML preview based on the task assigned to it.

Team members can follow the work as it happens through the shared channel. They can review the agent’s plan, check live previews, and provide feedback during development. The setup also allows teams to guide how an agent works. Slack says users can automate parts of their workflow, including account provisioning and user authentication.

Once a coding task is completed, the channel is automatically archived, and teams can still access it later for reference. It gives them a record of the work and discussions linked to the project.

Slack Code currently supports Anthropic’s Claude Code, Cognition’s Devin, GitHub Copilot and Vercel. Slack said Anthropic, Cognition, GitHub, OpenAI and Vercel are developing integrations for the platform.

OpenAI’s ChatGPT integration is expected to arrive soon. Slack said the feature is available across all Slack plans, although users must have access to the individual partner agents they want to use.

Slack to Take Code Beyond Software

The initial focus is software engineering and coding. Slack said it plans to expand the feature to other workplace tasks.

Future uses could include marketing campaigns, legal contract reviews and IT onboarding. The move signals Slack’s broader push to make AI agents part of everyday team workflows.

For developers, the immediate change is more direct: AI coding agents can now work alongside human teams inside the same project conversation, rather than operating separately from the workplace tools where teams already communicate.
