Snap has made its first move towards becoming an AR hardware player with the launch of Specs, a new line of augmented reality glasses. The company unveiled its first consumer-focused augmented reality (AR) smart glasses called Specs at the Augmented World Expo 2026.

The main focus is to deliver digital content directly in front of the user’s eyes. This represents one of Snap's most ambitious efforts to compete with Meta and Apple in the wearable technology market.

Snap Bets Big on Consumer AR

Specs is a combination of AR displays, AI capabilities, and computing capabilities, all integrated into lightweight glasses. The firm sees the product as a potential substitute for smartphones in day-to-day interactions.

Snap believes that the day will come when AR glasses will be the primary means of interacting with information, without having to stare at a phone screen all day long. The quality that sets Specs apart from other smart glasses is its augmented reality display. The clear lens displays images in front of the wearer's eye without obstructing their view of the physical world. The glasses have a viewing angle of 51 degrees and can display up to 16 million colors.

Users can also expect AI-driven tools that support navigation, object recognition, and contextual assistance. Users can browse the web, access notifications, play games, and interact with 3D digital content.

Premium Pricing Targets Early Adopters

Battery life is still a major concern for wearables, and Snap hopes to address it with Specs. The smart glasses offer up to four hours of continuous use on a single charge. The included battery pack provides additional charges, extending total usage time to up to 20 hours.

Specs have been priced at 8,061.14 AED, and orders are now available with a refundable deposit of 734.50 AED. The shipment for Specs will start in the US, UK, and France at the end of this year.
