Snapchat is partnering with HBO Max to bring the world of Harry Potter beyond the screen. The app offers a collection of augmented reality experiences and custom features alongside the upcoming HBO Original series, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone.
The rollout includes new AR Lenses, themed Chat Wallpapers, Bitmoji fashion, a Harry Potter-inspired app icon, and real-world AR experiences at select fan events.
The first Harry Potter-inspired AR Lenses are already available on Snapchat through the official Harry Potter account. More experiences are expected to arrive throughout the season, giving fans new ways to share their excitement with friends and bring the franchise’s elements into their everyday Snapchat activity.
Snapchat plans to release 12 AR Lenses over the course of the season. These experiences are designed to let users place themselves into the Harry Potter universe, experiment with themed effects, and share the results with friends.
For fans who want the Harry Potter theme during conversations, Snapchat will introduce dedicated Chat Wallpapers. The backgrounds will offer users a themed setting for discussing episodes, characters, and memorable moments from the new series.
“One of the reasons Harry Potter resonates so deeply with fans is its ability to make the extraordinary feel just within reach. As we introduce a new generation to the wizarding world through the HBO Original series, Snapchat is an incredible partner to help extend that sense of discovery beyond the screen, giving fans new ways to engage with the story and bring a bit of that magic into their everyday lives,” said Andrew Meengern, Vice President, HBO & Max Originals Marketing.
The Harry Potter collaboration will also extend to Bitmoji. Snapchat users will be able to dress their avatars in wizarding-inspired clothing, including costumes and other wardrobe pieces associated with the franchise.
That gives fans another way to show their connection to the Harry Potter universe without leaving the app. The company says additional Bitmoji fashion drops will arrive as the season progresses.
“Harry Potter fans have never been shy about representing their House, debating their favorite characters or sharing their love of the series with friends. That kind of personal connection is what makes this partnership so much fun for us,” said Anmol Malhotra, Global Head of Content & Partnerships, Snap Inc.
“With HBO Max, we’re building AR experiences and creative tools that give Snapchatters new ways to show off their House pride, put themselves into the world of Harry Potter, and have a little fun with friends as they watch the series,” Malhotra added.
The partnership isn't limited to Snapchat's digital platform. Snap is planning in-person experiences across the US and UK, featuring its AR Mirrors. At participating events, fans can use the mirrors to virtually try on clothing and accessories connected to their Hogwarts House.
Snapchat is also adding a Harry Potter-themed app icon, allowing users to personalize the app's appearance. The collaboration is timed with the launch of the new HBO Original series, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, which is scheduled to debut in December 2026, exclusively on HBO Max. With more Snapchat experiences planned throughout the season, fans can expect the partnership to expand as the series unfolds.
