The UAE plans to invest between AED 150 billion and AED 200 billion, or about USD 41 billion to USD 54.5 billion, in energy projects by 2030. Suhail bin Mohammed Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, said the program will help the country meet growing electricity demand and build a more resilient energy system.

The investments will support power generation, electricity networks, storage facilities and integrated system operations.

Clean Power Takes Center Stage

A large share of the spending will support clean-energy projects. The UAE aims to triple renewable energy’s contribution to its energy mix by 2030 under its updated Energy Strategy 2050. The country’s renewable capacity has expanded sharply over the past decade. It rose from 129 MW in 2015 to more than 8.2 GW in 2025, an increase of over 63 times.

Clean energy accounted for 32.4 percent of the UAE’s electricity generation in 2025. The country targets a 35 percent share by 2031. The government will also seek greater private-sector participation and stronger partnerships across the energy value chain.

The UAE raised its 2030 capacity target for the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park by 60 percent. The project remains central to the country’s solar expansion plans.

Solar and Masdar Drive Expansion

Masdar, the UAE’s clean-energy company, has invested about USD 45 billion so far. Its clean-energy portfolio now exceeds 65 GW, and it aims to reach 100 GW by 2030. Officials said the program will support economic and population growth while maintaining reliable and competitive energy supplies. It will also support the UAE’s goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.

The next phase will focus on accelerating projects, attracting private capital, developing financing mechanisms and deploying emerging technologies at scale.
