WhatsApp is reportedly testing a new feature that will let users access media from Instagram and Facebook directly within the messaging app. The feature could make it easier to reuse Stories, posts and Reels without switching between Meta’s different platforms.
According to WhatsApp tracker WABetaInfo, “The functionality is rolling out to some beta testers on the latest WhatsApp versions for Android and iOS. The feature is currently being expanded gradually and could reach more users in the coming weeks.”
The reported feature adds Instagram and Facebook as media sources inside WhatsApp’s media picker. Users can select content from their linked accounts while sharing media in individual or group chats.
The integration is also expected to work when users create WhatsApp Status updates. This could allow users to reuse eligible content from Instagram and Facebook without first downloading it to their device. WABetaInfo reports that users can access Stories, posts and Reels from the two platforms through the new media interface.
Users will need to connect their WhatsApp account to Meta’s Accounts Center, which Meta is gradually transitioning to the Meta Account system. The connection remains optional.
Meta introduced WhatsApp integration with Accounts Center in 2025. The company said the feature was designed to provide optional cross-platform experiences, including sharing WhatsApp Status updates to Facebook and Instagram Stories.
The integration does not change the encryption of personal WhatsApp messages and calls. Meta said that adding WhatsApp to Accounts Center is optional and does not affect end-to-end encryption.
WhatsApp’s Accounts Center privacy policy also states that personal messages and calls remain protected by end-to-end encryption.
