Motorola Razr Fold Gets Quick Share with AirDrop Support as Security Flaws Raise Fresh Questions

Motorola's latest foldable smartphone is the newest Android device to support Apple's AirDrop through Google's Quick Share. The update allows users to send files directly between Motorola phones and iPhones, iPads, and Macs without relying on third-party apps or cloud services. The feature arrives at a time when security researchers have also flagged fresh vulnerabilities in both AirDrop and Quick Share.

Cross-Platform Sharing Expands Further

Motorola Razr Fold has started receiving AirDrop support through Quick Share, according to a report by Android Authority. Google introduced AirDrop compatibility with Quick Share alongside the Pixel 10 series last year. The feature makes file sharing between Android and Apple devices much easier. It works across iPhone, iPad, and Mac without requiring extra applications.

Motorola is the latest brand to add the feature. Google had earlier confirmed that the Razr Fold would receive the update. Several Android smartphones already support it, including the Pixel 9 and Pixel 10 series, Samsung Galaxy S26 series, OnePlus 15, and Xiaomi 17T Pro. Google has also listed the HONOR Magic 8 Pro, OPPO Find X8 series, and vivo X300 series among devices expected to get the feature.

Security Concerns On the Surface

The wider rollout comes as security researchers at the CISPA Helmholtz Center for Information Security uncovered flaws in AirDrop and Quick Share. Their research identified six vulnerabilities across Apple, Android, and Windows devices.

Three of the flaws affect AirDrop. An attacker within roughly 30 metres can send a specially crafted request that crashes the background service handling AirDrop. The same service also powers AirPlay, Handoff, Universal Clipboard, and Continuity Camera. Once it crashes, all these features stop working until the attack ends. The researchers said the attack does not steal files or access personal data.

Quick Share also has security issues. Researchers found two authentication bypass flaws on Android and another memory-related issue on Windows. Google has already patched the Windows vulnerability.

What’s Next

People using AirDrop or Quick Share in ‘Everyone’ mode face the highest exposure. Security experts recommend switching visibility to Contacts Only or turning sharing off when it is not needed. Android users should also limit Quick Share visibility to their own devices or contacts instead of keeping it open to everyone.

Apple has already fixed one of the three AirDrop vulnerabilities. The other issues are still under coordinated disclosure, with more patches expected. The latest findings show that convenient file sharing also needs stronger protection as Android and Apple move closer to seamless cross-platform connectivity.
