Xiaomi appears ready to blur long-standing ecosystem lines. Xiaomi 17T Pro could allow Android and iPhone users to transfer files between devices more easily. This is made possible by leveraging the Quick Share framework on HyperOS 3.

This technology does not rely on Apple’s AirDrop service. Xiaomi has developed a feature that offers similar functionality. Users could transfer photos, videos, and documents without installing third-party apps.

HyperOS 3 Enables Cross-Platform Transfers

According to Xiaomi’s HyperOS announcement on X, “AirDrop support is now available through Quick Share, allowing users to send photos and files from Xiaomi devices directly to Apple devices more seamlessly. However, the rollout appears to be limited at the first stage, with the Xiaomi 17T Pro shown in Xiaomi’s trailer video as the highlighted supported device.”

The system is designed to recognize other Apple devices and begin file transfers in just a few steps. Xiaomi is prioritizing user experience in its approach. The aim is to achieve simplicity similar to what was made possible by AirDrop.

This comes at a time when many Android manufacturers are making similar attempts. The idea here is to create a standard way of transferring files outside the manufacturer’s ecosystem. The Xiaomi 17T Pro is expected to include this functionality at launch. Although it has great hardware, its main selling point will be its software.

Xiaomi has taken a significant step in terms of cross-platform sharing. The company is moving from being a brand focused on hardware to creating an ecosystem of experiences for its consumers.

Future Roadmap: Industrywide Push

Android players have been gradually improving interoperability. The step taken by Xiaomi could mean that dependence on cloud apps and messaging apps for transferring files will reduce. This shows a broader move toward open connectivity.

However, this process could prove to be limited in terms of implementation. Initially, it could only work with specific models and newer versions of the software. To the end user, this process is highly beneficial, allowing quicker transfer and more streamlined workflows.
