Samsung is only a few days away from launching its new smartwatches at the Galaxy Unpacked event on July 22. Before the big event, several new leaks have shared fresh details about the Samsung Galaxy Watch 9 and Galaxy Watch Ultra 2. The biggest update is about the battery. The latest reports say not every model will get a bigger battery, even though earlier leaks suggested otherwise.
The Samsung Galaxy Watch 9 is expected to arrive in two sizes, 40mm and 44mm. The 40mm model may come with a 382mAh battery, while the 44mm version could have a 435mAh battery. These batteries are only slightly bigger than the current Galaxy Watch 8 models. This means the regular Galaxy Watch 9 may not offer a huge improvement in battery life.
There is also some confusion about the processor. Some reports say Samsung will continue using the Exynos W1000 chip in the Galaxy Watch 9. Other leaks claim the company may use the new Snapdragon Wear Elite chip instead. Samsung has not confirmed this information, so the final answer will come at the launch event.
Most other features look similar across the leaks. The Galaxy Watch 9 is expected to offer 2GB RAM and 32GB storage. It may run on Wear OS 7 with One UI 9 Watch. The smartwatch is also expected to keep the same round AMOLED display, dual-band GPS, and 5 ATM water resistance. Samsung will likely continue using an aluminum body for the standard models.
The Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 could receive much bigger upgrades than the regular Watch 9. According to the latest leaks, Samsung may increase its battery from 590mAh to nearly 800mAh. If this information turns out to be correct, the Ultra 2 could last almost one extra day on a single charge. This would make it a better choice for people who travel often or enjoy outdoor activities.
The Ultra model is also expected to use the Snapdragon Wear Elite processor. Reports say it may include a brighter Super AMOLED display with brightness reaching up to 5,000 nits. Samsung is also likely to keep the strong titanium body and 100-meter water resistance. The watch may come only with LTE support instead of separate Bluetooth and LTE versions.
The latest leaks show Samsung may give the biggest upgrades to its premium smartwatch instead of every model. The Galaxy Watch 9 looks like a small update with better software and small hardware changes. The Galaxy Watch Ultra 2, however, could offer longer battery life, better performance, and a brighter display. This may help buyers choose a watch based on their needs instead of only looking at the newest model.
Price leaks also suggest Samsung may increase prices by around €30 to €50 compared with last year's models. The Galaxy Watch 9 could start at about €409, while the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 may cost around €749 in Europe. Samsung will officially reveal everything at the Galaxy Unpacked event on July 22.
