Apple has restored Pages, Keynote and Numbers to the App Store after briefly removing the three productivity apps. The apps returned after an update introduced the AI-powered Intelligent Assistant and support for iPhone Duo.

The company did not explain why it pulled the apps. The removal raised questions among users, particularly as it followed a major update to Apple’s iWork suite.

The apps first returned to the Mac App Store, but the updated versions were not immediately visible to all users. Apple later made the new release available again, suggesting the earlier disappearance was temporary rather than a permanent product decision.

What the New Assistant Does

The Intelligent Assistant brings generative AI directly into Apple’s document, spreadsheet, and presentation tools. Apple has positioned it as a beta feature for subscribers to Apple Creator Studio, rather than a free upgrade for every iWork user.

In Pages, the assistant can help users start a document, rewrite text, reorganize content and change the tone of their writing. It can also create images and shapes from a text prompt. In Numbers, the feature focuses on data work. Users can ask it to build formulas, create tables, visualise information and explain how to use spreadsheet functions.

In Keynote, the assistant helps users draft slides, refine presentations, add animations and generate speaker notes. It can also create images and shapes for decks.

Why it Matters

Across all three apps, Apple said the assistant can search the web for relevant information and insert it into a document. It can also guide users through advanced features and suggest next steps.

For users, the practical change is clear: iWork is no longer just a set of basic office tools. It is becoming an AI-assisted workspace, with Apple using its own apps as the delivery channel for its next generation of software features.
