The UAE called for stronger financial cooperation among BRICS nations at the first BRICS Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors Meeting held under India's 2026 presidency.
“BRICS provides an important platform for advancing multilateral action and developing shared responses to global economic and financial challenges,” Al Hussaini said.
Mohamed bin Hadi Al Hussaini, Minister of State for Financial Affairs, represented the UAE at the two-day ongoing meeting in Jaipur. The gathering brought together finance ministers, central bank governors and heads of regional financial and development organisations from across the bloc.
Talks focused on the global economic outlook, infrastructure financing, capital markets, tax cooperation and reforms to global economic governance. The UAE used the platform to push for a bigger voice for emerging economies within global financial institutions.
Al Hussaini urged continued work on reforms that improve productivity, draw in private capital and deepen domestic capital markets. He also pressed for greater development financing and changes to global economic governance that would give emerging and developing economies fairer representation within international financial institutions.
Speaking at the meeting, he said BRICS offers an important platform to advance multilateral action and build shared responses to global economic and financial challenges. He added that the UAE sees value in building on the outcomes of the technical working groups and keeping the initiatives launched during India's presidency running.
This, he said, would help sustain long-term cooperation among BRICS members and support a more balanced global economic system. The UAE also presented national initiatives on public-private partnerships, sustainable infrastructure financing, artificial intelligence, digital transformation and climate finance during the technical sessions.
Alongside the main meeting, the UAE took part in high-level sideline events, including a seminar on the role of the New Development Bank in drawing private capital into BRICS countries.
A separate workshop looked at resilient growth in emerging economies, focusing on risk financing and infrastructure resilience to help member nations handle rising economic pressures. Domestic financial market development also featured in the UAE's contribution to the technical discussions.
The broader meeting is examining ways for BRICS members to strengthen cooperation in the face of global economic challenges, with particular focus on shielding emerging and developing economies from financial shocks. India's presidency this year has placed emphasis on continuity of these initiatives, aiming to convert technical discussions into lasting frameworks for the bloc's financial cooperation.
