Samsung's next-generation foldable phones are expected to arrive next month. A fresh leak now points to an important camera upgrade for the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra. The latest report states that Samsung is focusing on imaging improvements while making limited hardware changes across its foldable lineup.
According to a report by Korean publication Sisa Journal, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra will retain a triple rear camera setup. The biggest change could come with the ultrawide camera. Samsung is tipped to replace the 12-megapixel ultrawide sensor used on the Galaxy Z Fold 7 with a new 50-megapixel sensor. The same sensor is also expected to appear on the upcoming Galaxy S26 Ultra.
The primary camera is likely to feature a 200-megapixel ISOCELL HP2 sensor, the same sensor Samsung uses in its Ultra flagship smartphones. The telephoto camera is expected to continue with a 10-megapixel sensor offering 3x optical zoom.
The leak also outlines the expected camera hardware for Samsung's other foldable models. The standard Galaxy Z Fold 8, also referred to as the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide in the report, is said to feature a 50-megapixel main camera and a 50-megapixel ultrawide camera. Samsung is also expected to equip the Galaxy Z Fold 8 with two 10-megapixel front cameras, one on the cover display and another on the foldable inner screen for selfies and video calls.
The Galaxy Z Flip 8, meanwhile, may not see major camera changes. It is expected to retain the same 50-megapixel primary camera and 12-megapixel ultrawide camera found on the Galaxy Z Flip 7.
The report also claims Samsung has reshaped its camera supply chain ahead of mass production. Camera modules are expected to come from Samsung Electro-Mechanics, Power Logics, and China's Sunny Optical.
Lens components are reportedly being supplied by Coasia CM, while camera modules will also come from its subsidiary, Coasia CM Korea. The report adds that Samsung has completed preparations for mass production after finalising its supply chain management system for camera modules.
Earlier reports have suggested Samsung could unveil the Galaxy Z Fold 8, Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, and Galaxy Z Flip 8 at its Galaxy Unpacked event expected on July 22 in London.
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 series is tipped to run on Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor. The standard Galaxy Z Fold 8 is also expected to feature a 7.6-inch foldable inner display with a 4:3 aspect ratio, keeping the design language seen in previous generations. Samsung has not officially confirmed the specifications or launch timeline for the upcoming foldable smartphones.
