Mozilla has expanded its AI-powered ‘Shake to Summarize’ feature to Android devices. It gives Firefox users a faster way to digest lengthy webpages. Users can generate a concise summary of an article or webpage simply by shaking their smartphone, extending a capability that first debuted on iOS last year. The move highlights Mozilla’s growing focus on practical AI tools designed to improve everyday web browsing.

Android Users Get a Faster Way to Read

Through a blog post, Mozilla announced, “We have rolled out a new AI summarisation feature for Firefox on Android. The Page Summaries feature works on a Firefox AI cloud-based solution powered by Mistral Small 3.1. As the name implies, the feature allows users to shake their Android device to summarise the current web page.”

One can activate the feature by shaking their mobile device while browsing the webpage. Users may also activate this feature via the Firefox settings menu. The new function aims to minimize the time required to read lengthy pages, including articles, recipes, tutorials, and information-dense web pages. Once activated, Firefox generates an AI-powered summary that captures the essence of the webpage.

The feature has been made available to Android users in the English language by Mozilla. It was initially rolled out to iOS users back in September 2025. It later gained prominence when Mozilla was featured on TIME's Best Inventions of 2025. Mozilla has since added more languages to its iOS offering and launched this feature on Android for the first time.

Mozilla’s Broader AI Strategy

The Android rollout reflects Mozilla’s broader effort to introduce AI features that solve specific user problems rather than overwhelm browsing experiences. The firm has always made it clear that the usage of AI in its products is optional.

Recently, Mozilla added AI settings that let users manage or disable AI-powered features. With the release of the Shake to Summarize feature on both mobile platforms, Mozilla believes that fast, privacy-conscious AI will help make the web browsing process more effective.
