Known for its hacker-friendly Flipper Zero, Flipper Devices has taken a different path with its latest launch. Instead of building another cybersecurity gadget, the company has introduced Busy Bar, a desktop productivity device designed to reduce interruptions and help users stay focused.
It functions as a ‘Do Not Disturb’ physical signal that can be placed on desks, at home, or in a common office space. It uses a bright LED display, customizable messages, and countdown timers to let everyone know when the person is busy.
The Busy Bar looks like a miniaturized digital clock, but its functionality extends far beyond that. Users can trigger pre-set phrases like ‘Busy’ or ‘On Call’ simply by pressing one button. t can even display how much time remains before the user is available again.
According to Flipper, the idea behind the device is to create create a physical barrier against interruptions in open office and hybrid work environments where distractions are inevitable. It works as a visible alert rather than a notification on a screen.
Busy Bar also functions as a productivity timer. It supports the Pomodoro technique by allowing users to schedule focused work sessions followed by short breaks. Dedicated buttons and a control dial eliminate the need to unlock a smartphone, reducing the temptation to switch to social media or other distractions.
The company has made an open API available, which allows users to develop their own integration tools for office and meeting rooms and productivity tasks. It can work offline, thus enabling use even without internet access.
Flipper has equipped Busy Bar with Matter compatibility, enabling it to interact with smart home devices. Users can automate actions including:
Changing room lighting
Muting notifications
Triggering other connected devices when a focus session begins
Busy Bar is now available at the price tag of 914.45 AED, although early buyers can get the product at reduced launch prices. The company describes it as an open-source, repairable device targeted at people looking for something other than another hacking tool. Busy Bar allows Flipper to pivot away from cybersecurity hardware and towards workplace productivity.
