Telegram has recently launched a native app for Apple Watch that allows users to access chats and media directly from their smartwatch. This move brings Telegram back to watchOS after several years with much more than basic notification support.

Telegram founder and CEO Pavel Durov announced this in a post on X. The feature rolled out with the latest Telegram update, although the company did not mention the Apple Watch app in its App Store release notes.

A More Complete Telegram Experience

The new app lets users open chats and view contacts directly on the Apple Watch. They can send and receive messages without using their iPhone. The app also supports voice messages, stickers, GIFs, videos, and location sharing.

Users need to connect the watch through the Telegram app on their iPhone. The setup requires a QR code scan, similar to a web browser or desktop login. Users with a cloud password enabled will need to complete an extra verification step before accessing their account.

Why the Return Matters

Telegram first launched an Apple Watch app in 2015. The company later removed native watchOS support, which meant users could only rely on notifications or third-party apps to access Telegram on the smartwatch. The new update brings back an official Telegram app for Apple Watch.

The launch shows Telegram's focus on making its service available across different devices. As smartwatches continue to gain more features, messaging apps are also expanding their support for wearable devices.

Replaces Third-Party Alternatives

Many Apple Watch users were using third-party apps to access Telegram on their smartwatches. The new native app gives them an official way to use Telegram directly from the watch. Users can check chats, send messages, view media, and stay connected without relying on unofficial apps. The update is currently rolling out in regions where Telegram is available.

The return of Telegram's native Apple Watch app reflects the growing importance of wearable technology and the demand for seamless messaging across all devices.
