Samsung has started rolling out the Wear OS May 2026 update for the Galaxy Watch 8 series and Galaxy Watch 7. The update brings the latest security upgrades and optimizations to its smartwatch family. Device security and system improvements are the main features of this new Wear OS.

May 2026 Security Patch Reaches Galaxy Watches

In its announcement, Samsung stated, “The May 2026 security package addresses 39 vulnerabilities related to Android and One UI software. Some issues were classified as critical, while others were stated to be moderate in severity. The security packages are designed to improve protection against potential security threats and vulnerabilities, although the exact contents may vary depending on the smartwatch models.”

Samsung has made security upgrades the primary focus of the rollout. It aims to address existing problems and improve protection against future threats. While the update includes no new additions, it is vital since it ensures the device continues to function properly and provides its users with a secure environment. Upgrading the software of wearable devices through security updates remains one of Samsung's important strategies.

Samsung Strengthens its Wearable Ecosystem

Apart from the security updates, there are many improvements that optimize the device's performance. The update comes as Samsung plans to increase its presence in the wearable software space. The tech giant brings Wear OS and One UI Watch, which include numerous health and fitness features and interface improvements.

Samsung’s Galaxy Watch 8 and Galaxy Watch 7 are powered by Samsung's latest wearable software and are among its most modern smartwatches. This particular update, released in May of 2026, has focused on maintaining the safety of Samsung’s wearables.

However, Samsung is releasing the update gradually in phases and the availability will vary across regions and carriers. Users who own a Galaxy Watch 8 or Galaxy Watch 7 can manually check for the update in the settings menu or check the Galaxy Wearable app on their smartphones.
