007 First Light, the latest James Bond action-adventure game from IO Interactive, crossed a major sales milestone just three months after its release. The studio has confirmed that the game has sold 4 million copies across all platforms, marking a strong start for the new Bond title.

IO Interactive announced the milestone on August 20, thanking players for joining the latest chapter in James Bond's return to gaming. The achievement comes less than three months after the game launched on May 27 for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S/X.

Strong Start for the New James Bond Game

The 4-million sales figure is particularly notable, as 007 First Light sold 1.5 million copies in its first 24 hours. The game has since continued to attract players across multiple platforms. The title offers a fresh take on Bond's early years, following a young James Bond after he is recruited into MI6. Rather than adapting a particular film, IO Interactive has created an original story around the iconic British spy.

The game also received a positive response from critics. It currently holds a Metacritic score of 87, with reviews praising its story, performances, combat, and the combination of stealth and action gameplay.

More Content is on the Way

IO Interactive is not stopping with the initial release. The studio has confirmed plans to expand 007 First Light with additional content.

Planned additions include a new story mission, New Game+ mode, and fresh Tac Sim challenges. These updates could help maintain interest in the game and encourage existing players to return.

The game is also scheduled to arrive on Nintendo Switch 2 later this year, potentially giving IO Interactive another opportunity to increase its player base and sales.

A Big Milestone for IO Interactive

The sales announcement arrives at an important time for IO Interactive. The company recently closed its Istanbul studio and confirmed layoffs after an external financing partnership for Project Fantasy ended. IO Interactive said it regained full ownership of the project and its intellectual property following the termination of the partnership.

Against that backdrop, the performance of 007 First Light provides a significant boost for the studio. With 4 million copies already sold, a Switch 2 release approaching and additional content planned, the James Bond title still has considerable room to grow.

For IO Interactive, the latest milestone suggests that 007 First Light has successfully established itself as a major new entry in the Bond gaming franchise.
