Apple has added an Accessibility setting that lets users disable touch input on the new MacBook Pro with a ProLED XDR display, while the keyboard, trackpad and other touch gestures remain configurable.

Apple added an option to disable touch input on the new MacBook Pro with the ProLED XDR display. The control sits in System Settings > Accessibility, not in the main Touch Display menu. The setting turns off finger input across the display. Users who prefer the keyboard and trackpad can therefore use the MacBook Pro without accidental taps, swipes or palm touches.

The display itself does not change. The laptop continues to work normally, and the keyboard and trackpad remain fully functional after touch input is disabled.

Why Apple Placed it in Accessibility

Apple positioned the option under Accessibility, where users can adjust features that change how they interact with the Mac. The tech giant also offers an Accessibility Shortcuts panel that lets users turn supported features on or off quickly.

The placement suggests Apple views the control as an accessibility and personal-preference feature, rather than a standard display setting. It gives users a direct way to avoid touch interaction if they find it unnecessary or distracting.

The new MacBook Pro also features a dedicated Touch Display section in System Settings. This menu lets users enable or disable common gestures, including swiping between pages, Mission Control, App Exposé, Notification Center, Show Apps and Show Desktop.

Zoom Feature for Touch Users

Accessibility settings also include a Zoom option. Once enabled, users can pinch with two fingers to zoom anywhere in the macOS user interface. These controls give users flexibility. They can keep selected gestures while disabling others, or switch off touch input entirely through Accessibility.

The move could reduce resistance among professionals who value the trackpad-first Mac experience. It also shows that Apple is treating touch as a configurable layer on macOS, not a replacement for its traditional input methods
