Apple’s latest iPhone launch triggered a rush across markets, with buyers queuing for hours to get the new models. In Dubai, two residents drew attention after reportedly purchasing 36 iPhones worth around Dh400,000, or nearly Rs 1 crore.
Buyers Raihan and Muhammed Shabeeb said several phones were ordered by friends and customers, including people in India.
The duo spent the night in the parking area of Dubai Mall before heading to the Apple Store. Despite living nearby, they said they feared missing their early collection slot if they returned home.
“We live close by, but we were scared we would oversleep,” Raihan said. The pair reached the store at around 6 am after spending the previous night at the mall. This reflects a buying routine they have followed for years. According to the duo, they have been purchasing iPhones for about 14 years.
Muhammed said, “ We received orders from friends and customers in India. We had booked 36 devices for the launch day and collected 14 from the Apple Store at Dubai Mall. The remaining 22 phones were scheduled for collection from the Apple Store at Mall of the Emirates.” The duo further explained that they booked another 40 iPhones for collection the following day.
The large purchase comes amid strong demand for Apple’s latest iPhone models in the UAE. Long queues formed outside Apple stores as customers arrived to collect pre-ordered devices and secure the new phones.
Dubai’s launch also saw buyers purchasing multiple devices, with reports highlighting the presence of resellers alongside personal customers. Some buyers were prepared to pay premiums to obtain newly launched models quickly.
