Dubai made daily commutes faster with a series of road and traffic upgrades delivered by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in 2026. From Hessa Street to Oud Metha, new bridges, tunnels, additional lanes and redesigned junctions are helping reduce congestion and increase road capacity across some of the emirate's busiest corridors.
The improvements are part of Dubai's wider effort to keep its transport network ahead of population growth and rising vehicle traffic. Several projects have already delivered measurable reductions in travel time, while others are expected to make journeys significantly shorter once fully completed.

Travel-time figures are based on RTA estimates and vary according to project completion and traffic conditions.
The Oud Metha Road and Al Asayel Street project is expected to produce the largest single journey-time reduction once all works are completed. The RTA expects travel time to drop from 20 minutes to five minutes, a 75% reduction.
The project includes bridges and tunnels designed to separate traffic flows and reduce weaving at busy junctions. It is around 90% complete and is expected to be finished by the end of August.

While the projects are primarily road infrastructure upgrades, they also reflect Dubai's broader move towards more efficient and technology-enabled urban mobility. Rather than simply adding roads, the RTA is using bridges, tunnels, additional lanes and redesigned junctions to separate traffic movements and remove bottlenecks.
The wider program is also designed to support communities experiencing rapid growth. Hessa Street, for example, serves more than 640,000 residents and businesses across areas including Jumeirah Village Circle, Arjan, Dubai Science Park and Al Barsha South.
More projects are still in the pipeline, including additional World Trade Centre bridges, Al Qudra side ramps and the second phase of Hessa Street. The larger Al Shindagha Corridor is expected to cut a 13-kilometre journey from 104 minutes to 16 minutes by 2030.
For Dubai residents, the immediate impact is simpler: shorter commutes, greater road capacity and fewer delays on some of the city's most heavily used routes.
