Google is all set to start taking pre-orders for its new Googlebook laptops which will begin on September 21, 2026. The company has listed the date on its Googlebook and Chromebook websites, while an update sent to users who signed up for notifications also confirmed the schedule. Pre-orders will begin at 9 a.m. ET.
This highlights the next stage in Google's attempt to reshape the laptop market around Gemini AI, Android integration, and premium hardware.
Google introduced Googlebook in May as a new category of laptops designed around what it calls Gemini Intelligence. The company describes the devices as combining the strengths of Android and ChromeOS while offering closer integration with Android smartphones.
Unlike traditional Chromebooks, Googlebook is positioned as a premium laptop category. Google says, “The first generation will come from Acer, Asus, Dell, HP and Lenovo. The manufacturers are expected to offer different form factors and configurations. Google did not disclose final pricing or detailed retail availability.”
One of Googlebook's headline features is Magic Pointer, developed with Google's DeepMind team. The feature brings Gemini into the cursor experience and can provide contextual suggestions based on what users select or point to on the screen.
Google also demonstrated Create My Widget, which allows users to generate customised desktop widgets using natural-language prompts. The approach reflects Google's broader push to make AI an integrated part of everyday computing rather than a separate application.
