Samsung’s next foldable flagship could receive its biggest hardware upgrade in years. This depends on whether the latest leaks are accurate. Unofficial reports suggest the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra may arrive with a higher-resolution display, a larger battery, faster charging and the return of S Pen support.

Samsung has not confirmed any of these details yet. The reported changes also point to a clearer difference between the standard Galaxy Z Fold 8 and the Ultra model. Some premium features are expected to stay exclusive to the higher-end device.

Display and Battery Upgrades

Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra will likely feature an inner display with a pixel density of around 500 pixels per inch (ppi). This would mark a noticeable improvement over the previous generation and bring the foldable closer to the display sharpness offered by Galaxy S26 Ultra.

Battery capacity is also tipped to increase from 4,400mAh to 5,000mAh. Wired charging could rise to 45W, replacing the 25W charging support offered on earlier Fold models. The changes would address two areas that existing Fold users have frequently highlighted. Leaks also suggest the model could become slightly thinner. It may keep the same 215g weight. The inner display crease is expected to be less visible than before.

Ultra Model Features

The biggest talking point is not the hardware upgrade itself. It is how Samsung may divide those features across the Fold lineup. According to the leaked information, S Pen support is expected to return only on the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra after missing the Fold 7. The standard Galaxy Z Fold 8 may not include stylus compatibility. The same approach is reportedly planned for the camera system.

The Ultra variant is expected to receive a 50MP ultra-wide camera, while the regular Fold 8 could use a less advanced setup. If accurate, Samsung would continue separating its foldable lineup through exclusive hardware rather than design alone.

Competition is Getting Stronger

The reported upgrades arrive at a time when competition in the foldable smartphone segment is increasing. Chinese brands such as Honor and Oppo have introduced thinner foldable phones with larger batteries and faster charging in recent years.

At the same time, Apple is expected to enter the foldable market with its first foldable iPhone, though the company has not announced or confirmed such a product.

Upgrade Decision Depends

The leaked specifications suggest Samsung is addressing several long-standing requests from Fold users, particularly display quality, battery life, and charging speed. Those upgrades could make the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra a strong option for existing Fold users.

The decision to keep the S Pen and premium camera only for the Ultra model may affect buying choices. If the leaks are correct, users wanting the full foldable experience may need to choose the more expensive variant.
