A new national accelerator for cybersecurity start-ups has been unveiled by the UAE in an effort to boost cyber safety in the nation. This initiative is a reflection of the UAE’s attempt to strengthen its digital economy through cybersecurity innovations. The accelerator will provide mentorship, investors, and access to top business people to convert their innovations into reality.

The initiative is led by the UAE Cybersecurity Council in partnership with Amazon Web Services (AWS), CrowdStrike, and e&. It is expected to support startups working on security solutions for businesses, governments, and critical sectors.

First Batch of Startups Selected

The first edition of the accelerator received 157 applications from startups across five countries. After the selection process, 23 startups were chosen to join the program. During the six-week accelerator, founders received guidance from industry experts, technical support, and business advice. They also had the chance to meet investors and potential customers who could help them grow their businesses.

At the end of the program, five startups were recognized for their performance, innovation, and business potential.

"This program has proven that the UAE has the talent, the ambition, and the ecosystem to become a world-leading cybersecurity innovation hub,” said Chris Erasmus, General Manager, Amazon Web Services (AWS).

Focus on Building Local Innovation

The UAE wants to create more homegrown cybersecurity companies rather than relying solely on technology developed overseas. Through this accelerator, startups will receive the support they need during the early stages of growth.

Officials believe the program will help new companies develop practical security solutions for businesses and public organizations. It is also expected to encourage more entrepreneurs to build cybersecurity products in the UAE.

The accelerator is part of the country's wider plan to support hundreds of cybersecurity startups in the coming years.

Cybersecurity Becomes a Bigger Priority

Cyberattacks have become increasingly frequent as companies shift their operations to the Internet. Therefore, the need for improved digital security has emerged. By connecting startups with technological partners, customers, and investors, the UAE seeks to facilitate the development of cybersecurity measures. Also, this program provides founders with an opportunity to evaluate and scale their products.

A Step Towards a Stronger Startup Ecosystem

The launch of the accelerator is yet another example of the UAE’s increasing emphasis on technology and innovation. Facilitating the growth of cybersecurity firms will lead to job creation, investment, and the development of the country's digital economy. As more firms enter the industry, the accelerator could help the UAE become a center for cybersecurity innovation in the region.
